Probate

Probate is the court-administered process of distributing a person’s property after death, usually according to the terms of a written will and under the supervision of a designated executor. But while there is a common conception of probate as an interminable and expensive process, it can actually proceed smoothly and at a reasonable cost with the assistance of an experienced probate lawyer.

Our firm has assisted executors throughout West Central Illinois in administering all manner of estates with various degrees of complexity. When necessary, our attorneys are also prepared to litigate probate disputes and have represented executors, aggrieved beneficiaries and potential beneficiaries.

Our knowledge extends to Juvenile Court for delinquency and abuse and neglect cases and we are happy to guide our clients through this specific set of rules and terminology as it applies to juveniles.

Estate Planning

Estate planning is more than just wills, trusts, and powers of attorney. Although those tools are an important part of it, there are numerous actions a person can take during their life to protect their property from medical debts, reduce their estate to minimize estate taxes, provide for the management of your property in the case of incapacity, and generally ease the transition of your property to your family or whomever you chose. By avoiding ambiguities in your final wishes, you can spare your family significant stress and consternation, and even avoid costly civil litigation regarding your estate or affairs. Our office seeks to assist clients in controlling their assets both prior to and after death.
